Dr. de Bustros, Ingalls recognized as Diabetes Center of Excellence
(February, 2010) Together with board-certified endocrinologist Andree de Bustros, M.D., the Ingalls Outpatient Diabetes Management Center, has been recognized as a Medtronic Diabetes Center of Excellence. The distinction honors healthcare providers who have successfully implemented best practices for modern therapies in diabetes management.
Specifically, the Diabetes Center and Dr. de Bustros were cited for using best practices in therapy management, practice efficiencies, patient competencies and glucose monitoring. They are the first in the area to receive this distinction from Medtronic, one of the nation’s leading manufacturers of insulin pumps and glucose monitoring equipment.
“We treat a large population of Type 1 diabetics, and we have converted many of them to insulin pumps and continuous glucose monitoring,” Dr. de Bustros explained. “That requires a lot of work and training. I’m very grateful to my office staff, Donna Wachala, Quay Miller and Lois Reagan, and to the Ingalls Diabetes Center – especially Maria Natividad and Julie Allen who train most of my patients – for all they do to help our patients learn how to use the equipment and successfully manage their diabetes.”
“I’m really proud of my staff for the wonderful work they do and for the dedication they give our patients,” added Lisa M Szafranowski R.N., M.S., C.D.E., program coordinator for the Diabetes Center. “I’d also like to thank Dr. de Bustros and her staff. We are so grateful that she sends her patients to the Ingalls Outpatient Diabetes Management Center for ongoing education and monitoring.”
The Ingalls Outpatient Diabetes Management Center – with locations in Tinley Park, Flossmoor and Calumet City - is staffed with registered nurses and registered dietitians who are also certified diabetes educators and certified insulin pump instructors. When a patient is referred to the center, Lisa and her team create a customized plan of care based on an in-depth individual assessment, ongoing education and monitoring. The center also is recognized by the American Diabetes Association for providing superior self-management education.
Center services are covered by Medicare and most private insurance providers with a physician referral. For more information, call the Ingalls Outpatient Diabetes Management Center at 708.915.8530.
